THE TYLER PERRY STUDIOS DREAM COLLECTIVE CONTEST

OFFICIAL RULES

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY

  1. CONTEST ENTRY PERIOD: The Tyler Perry Studios Dream Collective Contest (the “Contest”) begins on 3:00 p.m. ET on 4/17/25 and ends the earlier of 11:59 p.m. ET on 5/1/25 or when 1,000 Entries are received (the “Contest Entry Period”). In the event 1,000 entries are received prior to 11:59 p.m. ET on 5/1/25, a notice will be posted on the website indicating that the Contest Entry Period has ended.
  1. ELIGIBILITY: Open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who meet all of the following requirements: (a) have five (5) or more years of any type of work experience, (b) are eligible to work in the United States, (c) have directed at least two video samples of narrative/fiction films within the last five years, (d) have a compelling short film script (“Script”), no more than 15 pages, that can be produced in the State of Georgia with production funding and/or resources of no more than $30,000, (e) have a clean chain of title for the Script if the Script was written or co-written by a third party (e.g., a rights release agreement or purchase agreement from the writer or co-writer), (f) have not directed or co-directed more than one (1) narrative feature that has been distributed on a mainstream broadcast, cable, or a streaming platform, (g) have not directed or co-directed digital episodes (e.g., web series, YouTube, Snapchat) or original pilots that have been distributed on a mainstream broadcast, cable, or streaming platform, and (h) are 21 years of age or older as of date of entry. For purposes of the Contest and these Official Rules, the person submitting the Entry (as defined below) is considered the “Entrant”. Employees of Dream Collective, LLC (“Sponsor”), Don Jagoda Associates, Inc., their respective affiliates, parents, subsidiaries, divisions, suppliers, distributors and advertising, promotional and judging agencies (collectively “Sponsor and its Administrators”), and each of their respective employees, shareholders, directors, officers, members and agents and their immediate family members (spouses, parents, children, and siblings and their spouses) and/or those living in the same household of each, and interns in the 2025 Tyler Perry Studios Dreamers program are not eligible to participate or win. All federal, state and local taxes are the sole responsibility of winners. Void where prohibited by law and subject to all federal, state, and local laws.

 

  1. HOW TO ENTER (ROUND 1): To enter, visit www.tylerperrystudiosdreamcollective.com (the “Site”), and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the registration with the required information, including your full name, email address and state of residence along with your resume (maximum 2 pages), a personal statement (maximum 250 words), two (2) narrative moving image projects (maximum 15 minutes each) created within the last five years, a statement describing the inspiration to tell the story depicted in one of those moving image projects (maximum 500 words) and your applicable social media handles (collectively, “Submission” or “Entry”). There is a limit of one (1) Submission per Entrant for the entire Contest Entry Period. If Submissions are not in English then accurate English subtitles must be included. By entering, you understand that your name and/or social media content may (in Sponsor’s sole discretion) be posted on websites, Social Media sites and/or other Sponsor-selected media. All Submissions must be received prior to the end of the Contest Entry Period. By participating, Entrants agree to the Official Rules and the decisions of the Judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects. Normal data/Internet access and usage charges imposed by Entrants’ online/cellular service will apply. Prizes will be awarded, provided a sufficient number of eligible Submissions are received.
  1. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: To be entered into the Contest, Entrants must comply with registration instructions when submitting their Submission. The Submission may not contain obscene, profane, lewd, defamatory or inappropriate images or text, including no pornography, acts of violence or acts that appear to cause harm or are illegal/dangerous, as determined at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Any Submission or portion thereof that is, in the Sponsor’s sole discretion, obscene, profane, lewd, defamatory, highlights the Sponsor in a negative way, contains any third party materials, or otherwise violates or infringes (or may infringe) any copyright, trademark, logo, mark that identifies a brand or other proprietary right of any person living or deceased (including, but not limited to, rights of privacy or publicity or portrayal in a false light) or entity, or is otherwise objectionable, will not be considered and may disqualify the Entrant. Entrants may not copy or otherwise plagiarize the Submission from any source. If submitting a video depicting other individuals, you must make the other individuals aware that you are entering a video into this Contest and attest that the other individuals have agreed that you may submit such video and you must have express written permission from the parents/legal guardians of any minors featured in the video, such permission may need to be sent to the Sponsor upon request. Sponsor has the sole discretion to determine whether a Submission qualifies. All Submissions must be the sole, original work of the Entrants. Entrant’s social media profiles must be keeping with Sponsor’s image or Entrant may be disqualified. Automated, script, macro or robotic Submissions submitted by individuals or organizations will be disqualified. Any Submission not in compliance with the above and does not meet the Site’s requirements will be disqualified.
  1. JUDGING TO DETERMINE THE TOP 250 ENTRANTS (ROUND 2): All Submissions (up to 1,000) will be judged by Sponsor’s judges (“Judges”) on or about 5/23/25 to determine 250 Entrants based on the following criteria (“Initial Judging Criteria”): (35%) narrative moving image project #1 will be judged equally based on character development, visual composition, strength of narrative structure, originality, and persuasiveness of storytelling; (35%) narrative moving image project #2 will be judged equally based on creativity, visual composition, originality, and persuasiveness of storytelling; and (30%) the statement that describes the inspiration to tell the story depicted in one of the moving image projects will be judged equally based on the commitment to development of the craft, clarity of execution, and professionalism. Any tied Submissions will be re-judged by different Judges based on the Initial Judging Criteria above to determine the applicable top 250 Entrant(s).
  1. JUDGING TO DETERMINE THE 200 SEMI-FINALISTS (ROUND 3): The top 250 Submissions determined in Round #2 will be judged by different Judges to determine 200 Semi-Finalists based on the Initial Judging Criteria. Any tied Submissions will be re-judged by different Judges based on the Initial Judging Criteria above to determine the applicable Semi-Finalist(s).
  1. JUDGING TO DETERMINE THE 100 FINALIST WINNERS (ROUND 4): The 200 Semi-Finalist Submissions determined in Round 3 will be judged by the Judges to determine the 100 Finalists who will win a Finalist Prize based on the following criteria (“Finalist Judging Criteria”): (60%) the personal statement will be judged equally based on clarity of how the Semi-Finalist’s voice is underrepresented or underrecognized, professionalism, and authenticity; (25%) the resume will be judged equally based on leadership and professionalism; and (15%) how consistent the Submission is with the overall Contest theme. Any tied Submissions will be re-judged by different Judges based on the Finalist Judging Criteria above to determine the applicable Finalist(s). Sponsor will also perform a social media check on each of the top 100 potential Finalist winners to ensure their online activity is consistent with the image of the Contest and the Sponsor in order for them to proceed to the next round(s) of judging. After the 100 Finalists are determined, they will be notified via email with an invitation to attend  virtual online sessions on four consecutive Saturdays (the “Finalist Prize” or the “Virtual Sessions”) designed to educate, inspire and cultivate lasting community with the cohort.  The Virtual Sessions will feature a director of note, their key collaborators (e.g., writers, casting directors, editors, etc.) covering topics such as career origins, the art of collaboration, and case studies that highlight trials and triumphs on and off set.  The Finalist Prizes have no retail value.  Recipients of the Finalist Prizes must be available on four consecutive Saturdays, beginning May 31, 2025 (or such other date as notified by Sponsor) and must follow the instructions within the email they will receive to accept or decline the Finalist Prize prior to the deadline indicated. Finalists that accept the Finalist Prize and are deemed eligible will be provided details by email with instructions on how to upload/submit the following In-Person Workshop application materials (“Materials”) by the deadline indicated: a Director’s statement video detailing the Finalist’s interest in directing (maximum 2 minutes); a Script (no more than 15 pages, not including the title page); a logline for the Script (one sentence); a creative statement (maximum 500 words); an estimated budget; a Creative Deck for the Script (no more than 10 pages); chain of title documentation (if applicable); and a letter of recommendation (maximum 1 page). If a Finalist declines the Finalist Prize, they will forfeit any prize(s) and opportunity to continue in the Contest and an alternate Finalist will be determined from the Semi-Finalists, following all the same protocols as listed above.

JUDGING TO DETERMINE THE 10 WINNERS (ROUND 5): The 100 Finalist Prize winners will have their Materials judged by the Judges to determine the 10 In-Person Workshop Prize winners (“Winners”) based on the following judging criteria (“10 Winners Judging Criteria”): (40%) Script will be judged equally based on: character development, strength of narrative structure, originality, and persuasiveness of storytelling; (20%) Creative Statement will be judged equally based on: voice, visual style and approach, intended audience, strategic thinking in response to biggest challenges; (20%) Director’s statement video will be judged equally based on: ability to communicate, depth of passion, and commitment to craft; (10%) Creative Deck will be judged equally based on: visual composition, design, alignment with the creative statement and creativity; (5%) Budget will be judged equally based on: professionalism, comprehensiveness, clarity and accuracy; (5%) Letter of Recommendation will be judged equally based on: work experience, leadership, collaboration and resilience. Any tied Submissions will be re-judged by different Judges based on the Winners Judging Criteria above to determine the applicable Winner(s).
  1. IN-PERSON WORKSHOP WINNER NOTIFICATION AND VERIFICATION: The Winners from Round 5 will be notified as potential Winners by Don Jagoda Associates, Inc., who will preliminarily verify their eligibility by contacting them via email through DocuSign so that they may complete and return, within 3 days of notification attempt, the required documentation, including without limitation, a Declaration of Eligibility, Release of Liability, Publicity Release (where legal), Submission Release, and Short Film License Agreement  (“Submission Agreements”). The Submission Agreements will include details regarding both the In-Person Workshop Prize as well as the opportunity for those winners to be eligible to win a Grand Prize. All potential winners understand and agree that, as a condition of winning a prize, they will be subject to a full background check at the sole discretion of Sponsor and Sponsor will verify that the potential winner meets all of the eligibility criteria. Based on the results of the background check or if all eligibility criteria has not been met, at the discretion of the Sponsor, potential winner may be disqualified: (a) if charged with or convicted of a felony or misdemeanor; (b) if Sponsor determines, in its sole discretion, that such individual may reflect unfavorably on the Contest or Sponsor; and/or (c) if Entrant is not eligible to receive any prize based on the eligibility requirements set forth in these Official Rules. In the event a potential winner is disqualified or refuses to accept the In-Person Workshop Prize, the In-Person Workshop Prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be determined and will need to follow all the same protocols as listed above.
  1. IN-PERSON WORKSHOP (ROUND 6), IN-PERSON WORKSHOP PRIZE DESCRIPTION AND APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUE (“ARV”): The Winners will each receive the following prize: Round-trip coach air-transportation from gateway airport nearest winner’s home to Atlanta, GA, round-trip ground transportation from destination airport to Tyler Perry Studios (“TPS”), accommodations at TPS, select meals at the TPS cafeteria, and a $5,000 living stipend awarded as a check for use towards any personal expenses in connection with attendance of a 10-day advanced-level, In-Person Workshop at TPS from 7/28/25 – 8/8/25 (or such other dates as notified by Sponsor) (“Workshop”). The ARV of each of these prizes is: $6,705 each; there is no retail value associated with accommodations at TPS. This immersive, week-long Workshop will focus on honing the directing craft of each winner. The Workshop will allow the winners to experiment with scenes from their short film and focus on areas such as working with actors, location scouting, and collaboration with department heads. The culmination of the Workshop is a virtual pitch where each of the ten (10) In-Person Workshop Prize winners will be required to pitch their projects (“Pitch”) to a panel of Judges (in the timeframe specified by Sponsor) and to participate in virtual interviews (“Interviews”) for an opportunity to become a potential Grand Prize winner.  All details of the Pitches and Interviews will be in Sponsor’s sole discretion and each In-Person Workshop Prize winner will have the same requirements for the Pitch/Interview and will participate/interact in person for the same amount of time. In-Person Workshop Prize winners will receive detailed instructions, time limits and requirements at the outset of the Workshop so they can be prepared for the Pitch/Interview. If an In-Person Workshop Prize winner cannot attend the Workshop or they are unable to participate in their Pitch/Interview, they will be disqualified and no compensation will be provided and they are no longer in the running for a Grand Prize.  In the event a winner resides within a 250-mile radius of TPS, winner will receive a $150 travel stipend in lieu of air-transportation and no additional compensation will be provided. 
  1. GRAND PRIZE WINNER DETERMINATION AND PHOTO SHOOTS (ROUND 7), PRIZE DESCRIPTION AND ARV: From approximately 9/22/25 through approximately 10/3/25 (or such other dates as determined by Sponsor), Judges from Dream Collective (and/or its partners) will determine the five (5) Grand Prize winners from among the Winners based on the following judging criteria for the Pitch and Interview (“Grand Prize Judging Criteria”): (40%) based equally on: originality, structure, resonance and creative vision of the story pitched; (40%) based equally on accuracy of budget and practicality of the Pitch; and (20%) based equally on conviction and authenticity expressed by the Winner. Any tied Submissions will be re-judged by different Judges based on the Grand Prize Judging Criteria above to determine the applicable Grand Prize winner(s). Each of the (5) Grand Prize winners will receive the following prize: Round-trip coach air-transportation from gateway airport nearest winner’s home to Atlanta, GA, round-trip ground transportation from destination airport to TPS, accommodations at TPS, select meals at the TPS cafeteria, and an opportunity to shoot their short film based on their Script (the “Short Film”) in the greater Atlanta area in a 2-day production window, including TPS production resources, local below-the-line crew and end-to-end mentorship.  Sponsor or its affiliates will provide production funding and/or resources not to exceed $30,000 in value, such values to be determined by Sponsor. The ARV of each of these prizes is: $1,705 each; there is no retail value associated with accommodations at TPS. All details of the filming are in Sponsor and its Administrators’ sole discretion and Grand Prize winners will be provided with all necessary details and information so that they may shoot their Short Film in accordance with Sponsor’s requirements. These winners must follow all parameters and will be required to sign additional documentation including, but not limited to, a Short Film License Agreement. In the event a winner resides within a 250-mile radius of TPS, winner will receive a $150 travel stipend in lieu of air-transportation and no additional compensation will be provided.
  1. TRAVEL PRIZE CONDITIONS: All travel must occur on dates specified by Sponsor based on prize level. Travel dates and arrangements are subject to air travel, holiday, blackout dates, and other travel restrictions. Released Parties (defined below) will not be responsible for weather conditions; acts of God; acts of terrorism; civil disturbances; local, state, or federal regulation, order, or policy; work stoppage; epidemic, pandemic, or any other issue concerning public health or safety; or any other event outside of their control that may cause the cancellation or postponement of any prize related activity. All expenses and incidental travel costs not expressly stated in the prize descriptions above, including, but not limited to, incidentals, gratuities, passenger tariffs or duties, airline fees, surcharges, airport fees, service charges or facility charges, personal charges at lodging, security fees, taxes or other expenses are the responsibility of each of winner. Travel arrangements must be made through Sponsor’s agent and on a carrier of its choice. Winners are responsible for providing proper documentation (i.e., government issued photo ID, REAL ID, passport, etc.) required for travel.  Those without proper documentation may be denied boarding.  All airline tickets are subject to the vagaries of flight variation, work stoppages, and schedule or route changes.  Travel may not be combined with any other offer, and may not qualify for frequent flier miles, award points or other perquisites.  None of the Released Parties are responsible for lost or mutilated tickets and none will be replaced.  Airline tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable, and are not valid for upgrades.  The accommodations and airline tickets will be determined at the sole discretion of Sponsor.  Trip and trip components may not be sold, traded, auctioned, transferred, or refunded.  Other travel and accommodation restrictions, conditions and limitations may apply.  Airline carrier’s regulations and conditions apply. Prizes are subject to availability and blackout dates, and subject to change without written notice or warning.
  1. GENERAL RULES: No substitution or transfer of prize by winners permitted. Prizes are awarded “as is” without any warranty or guaranty of any kind. Prizes are not transferable and not resaleable. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prize or prize component for one of equal or greater value, in its sole discretion.  As a condition of entry into the Contest, all Entrants agree to release Sponsor and its Administrators, each of their respective agencies, parents, subsidiaries, affiliated companies and each of their respective officers, directors, shareholders, members, employees, agents, assigns, and all others associated with the development and execution of this Contest (collectively the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons or property which may be sustained in connection with creation of or submitting a Submission, participating in the Workshops or any portion thereof, participating in Pitches/Interviews or any of portions of the rounds of judging or otherwise participating in any aspect of the Contest, the receipt, ownership or use of prizes awarded or any typographical or other error in these Official Rules or the announcement or offering of the prizes. By being determined a Top 250 Entrant, a 200 Semi-Finalist, Finalist, winner and/or acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, licensees, designees and legal representatives to use their names, likenesses, Submissions, social media content, Pitches/Interviews or any of portions of the rounds of judging for promotional purposes (including any possible public relations opportunities) without further compensation except where prohibited by law. By participating in the Contest, Entrants/Finalists/winners agree to be bound by the Official Rules and the decisions of the Judges and all rounds of the judging. The Sponsor and its Administrators are not responsible for technical, hardware, software or telephone malfunctions of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, incomplete, inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications caused by the user or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest or by any human error which may occur in the processing of the Submissions in the Contest, participating in the online Virtual Sessions/Pitches/Interviews or any of portions of the rounds of judging or for any liability for damage to any computer system resulting from participation in, accessing, uploading or downloading information in connection with the Contest. The Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the Submissions/Materials/Pitches/Interviews/judging process or the operation of the Contest; violates the Official Rules; or acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of an Entrant, the authorized account holder of the email address used to enter will be deemed to be the Entrant. “Authorized account holder” of an email address is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet Access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the Sponsor which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, then the Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to modify or cancel the Contest and determine the top 250 Entrants from among all eligible Submissions received prior to cancellation, based on the Initial Judging Criteria listed above. These Official Rules cannot be modified or amended in any way except in a written document issued in accordance with law by a duly authorized representative of Sponsor. You hereby represent and warrant that you have read these Official Rules and are fully familiar with its contents. Submissions generated by script or bot are not eligible. As a condition of entering the Contest, Entrants agree that: 1) under no circumstance will Entrants be permitted to obtain awards for, and Entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, consequential or any other damages, other than for out-of-pocket expenses; 2) all causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, or any prize awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; and 3) any and all claims, judgments, and award shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, but in no event attorneys’ fees.
  1. CONDITIONS: Entrants/Finalists/Winners/Grand Prize winners acknowledge and agree that Sponsor and its affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, licensees, designees and legal representatives have the right to edit, adapt, modify, reproduce, promote and otherwise use the Submission/Materials/Sessions Recordings/ BTS Footage/ Pitches/Interviews or any of portions of the rounds of judging and any other materials developed during the Contest in any way it sees fit in connection with advertising and promotion in any medium, throughout the world, in perpetuity. Entrant/Finalists/winners/Grand Prize winners shall have no right to review or approve edits, alterations or modifications, and the Entrant/Finalists/winners/Grand Prize winners waive the benefit of any provision of law known as “moral rights.” No information regarding Submissions, Materials, or judging will be disclosed to any third party not involved in the conduct of the Contest. By submitting a Submission and if applicable, the Materials, you represent: (a) that the Submission and/or Materials are your own original work and/or are solely controlled by you in the case of the Script that has not previously been distributed; and (b) any and all rights to the Submission and/or the Materials belong to you and do not infringe, misappropriate or violate the rights of any third party. Further, any Submissions or Materials that Sponsor, in its sole discretion, deems to be inappropriate for publication will not be considered.
  1. RIGHTS TO RECORDINGS: Entrants/Finalists/Winners/Grand Prize winners acknowledge that the Virtual Sessions will be recorded (the “Sessions Recordings”) and that the Workshops and some or all of the production of the Short Films will occur at TPS. Entrant further acknowledges that in the event Entrant is selected as an In-Person Workshop Prize winner and/or a Grand Prize winner, Sponsor and/or affiliates of Sponsor (the “Sponsor Parties”) will be taking photographs of, filming, taping and/or recording Entrant as a participant in the Workshops and/or the Short Film productions, including without limitation, behind-the-scenes footage (the “BTS Footage”). All rights of every kind (including, without limitation, all copyrights) in and to such photographs, filming, tapings and recordings, including without limitation, the Sessions Recordings and the BTS Footage, will be and remain vested in the Sponsor Parties, including, without limitation, the right to use and reuse all such photographs, filming, tapings and recordings for any purpose, including without limitation in connection with advertisements, promotions, publicity, clips, etc. of the Contest, Sponsor and/or affiliates of Sponsor, in any and all media (now known or hereafter devised) and languages, throughout the universe in perpetuity.  Entrant agrees and acknowledges that Entrant will have no claim or action against the Sponsor Parties or any other party arising out of any use of the photographs, filming, taping and/or recordings, including, without limitation, any right of privacy, defamation, libel or slander, credit or payment of any kind. All winners agree that Sponsor and/or its parent, subsidiaries, and/or affiliated entities and each of their licensees, successors and assigns will own the copyright to the completed Short Films and will grant to the Grand Prize winners the right to exploit the completed Short Films, and any portions thereof, in accordance with the terms of the Short Film License Agreement.  

 

  1. STUDIO RULES & REGULATIONS: Entrants who will be present at TPS agree to comply with the rules and regulations of TPS at all times during Entrant’s presence at TPS, including, without limitation, all COVID-19 related protocol and procedures, posted signs and notices and the instructions and direction of the TPS Security personnel (“TPS Security”). Entrant will fully cooperate and comply with any and all health and security measures, procedures and precautions that Sponsor, TPS and/or TPS Security have enacted or may require from time to time as determined in its and/or their sole and absolute discretion, including, without limitation, presenting government issued photo identification and signing TPS access documentation to enter TPS.

 

  1. WINNERS’ LIST: To receive the names of the Winners and Grand Prize winners by email, send an email to: [email protected] with “The Tyler Perry Studios Dream Collective Contest 10-2982-01” as the subject line. Requests must be received by 9/10/25. Winners’ list will be sent after all prizes have been awarded.
